The king felt the path the mage had taken and decided to enter that way. He then was shocked, then even more angry that he couldn’t get through.

He was getting madder and madder, he was the strongest on the planet, nothing should stop him. He kept at it, seeming to get closer and closer.

It was almost to the point that he was growing weaker when he felt the human. He also felt the six aspects and the six shields.

Even as he lost consciousness, the king was planning to send as many troops as he could to destroy the human. The human was growing too strong and needed to die.

Dan had felt the intrusion as some very strong power had tried to penetrate his defenses. It had taken all his shields combined to keep the power away.

All my female companions were holding their own counsel away from me. I started to say something, then felt the drain from defending us.

I heard a few gasps as I started to go down. I looked at all of them as they were concerned around me. “I kept that ass of a king out, but it took all I had.”

That was the last as I fell against them, damn I felt weak, he thought. All eight of the females with him rolled their eyes as they eased him to the ground. Well, he was stronger, though not enough it seemed.

Maybe they thought it wouldn’t last as long this time. They hoped though it was more than several hours before his eyes flickered open.

“You know you keep this up? You’re never gonna find out what you need to do,” Kim’ta said.

“We realized that you need to use them to strengthen them, but you’re pushing it a bit too far,” En’tra said with a smirk on her lips. “Keep this up and all hope will be lost when we lose you.”

Dan was about to speak when a message popped before his eyes. {you have gained the spell double ice shield}

OK, Dan thought that should come in handy, he just needed the others. You have gained the spells, double flame shield, double water shield, double light shields.} Dan thought they were done when more popped up. [You have gained the spells, double Air shield, double shadow shield.]

Dan’s mouth hung open as he stared at the new spells. Most would be possible, but a few were going to take a lot more energy.

All the females noticed as soon as his mouth fell open. “Dan!” He heard all eight of their voices raised toward them.

He looked toward them, then down at himself. Was he still injured, what was wrong?

“The last time we saw you looking like that, something bad happened,” Gre’ta said. “Even I, who hasn’t been here that long, can recognize when something is wrong.”

He could see that they were concerned as he opened his mouth. “I just received another spell, to all my magic,” he said.

“Wait,” En’tra started. “How many of your magics now have seven spells?”

Dan pulled up his magic/spell window and started to count. “Let’s see,” he started. “One, two, three it looks like.”

All eight of his companion’s mouths dropped open. “I need to report this to Queen Ad’ella, especially with you now having three high-level spells,” Gre’ta said.

Tygan, Marlena and Shae’ten also decided to report back to their elders. Dan was a little bewildered by this but sat back to rest more.

He knew that Kim’ta, En’tra plus both of the twins, really had no one to report to. For now, he hoped that the first two wouldn’t be in any further trouble.

The other three returned shortly with astounded looks on their faces. Oh shit, Dan thought, hope that this wasn’t as bad as it appeared on their faces.

The closer they came to him, the worse he felt that something bad was going to happen. Standing up, he drew upon all of his double shields, all of them appearing in the visible range.

With a low, dangerous voice, he spoke to all eight of them. “I warn all of you, two of you have already tried to kill me. I guarantee all of you may take me down, but I will end most of you!”

All of his companions backed away as they could see all of his shields manifesting. The look of shock on their faces caused him to pause a moment.

“Dan? We aren’t trying to kill you,” Gre’ta said.

“Father is happy that you are this strong,” Marlena said.

“The elders said that they will lend you help, if they can beat this disease,” Tygan said.

All of them backed further away, afraid that Dan just might destroy them. Dan shook his head as he felt pure rage coursing through his body and head.

Two soft hands startled him, “Dan,” came Ella’s voice. “They are your friends, as are Bell and I.”

“Please Dan, as powerful as you are now, there’s not really any that can hurt you,” Bell said on the other side.

Dan felt the rage die almost as if it hadn’t been there to begin with. Then to his surprise, Ella and Bell, both kissed him at the same time.

Dan could only stare at both of them, when the hell had this developed. Then to his further amazement, the other six kissed him.

Dan could only stand there for a few moments, stock still as he took in all that had just happened.

Ella and Bell looked at the others as they all either smiled largely or giggled. “I think he’s a little stunned. Don’t you think Bell?” Ella asked.

“Yeah, he does seem a little shell shocked,” Bell said.

Dan, still a little out of it, looked at all eight. “When did this happen?” he asked.

“Well,” Gre’ta started. “It might be because of all that you have healed so far.”

“It started then for me,” Marlena said.

Dan thought a moment, then looked at Tygan, “Would your people allow me to heal them? I’m afraid that the king might attack them.”

Tygan thought about it as she went into a telepathic talk with the elders. A few minutes later she turned to Dan.

“They believe that they can keep it hidden though there are a great many sick there. If you can help, I’m sure they’d be more than grateful,” Tygan said.

Dan stared at her a moment, then he nodded, reached out, then pulled all of them into the shadows. A few moments later all of them appeared outside Tygan’s village.

There were more than a few of the elders waiting for them. Dan was unsure of what to say or do as they all stood there. A moment later Tygan ran to a similar-looking young white elf throwing her arms around him.

“Brother! I am so glad to see that you are so healthy. I thought that you were still sick and recovering,” Tygan said.

“I have made a full recovery sister. It is good to see you again,” her brother said. “Is this the one? The one that healed me?”

Tygan turned and followed her brother’s eyes. “Yes, let me introduce you to Dan. He reminds me of the stories of the Archmage.”

Her brother’s eyes grew wide as he felt the power coming off Dan. Many of the elders backed away slightly as they also felt his power.

Dan then took them aside as he informed them of the elf king’s actions. All of their eyes grew large as Dan described the horror that the king had perpetrated.

He also mentioned that they had managed to save several hundred people. A fact that they all saw that was weighing heavy on him.

The highest elder nodded as Dan went through the story. “To save even a few is far better than sitting back and watching them all die. At least you cared enough to try.”

Dan nodded, still feeling the anguish and pain of all the deaths. “I worry that me helping you and this village, might doom you.”

The elder smiled as he told Dan that they really didn’t have a problem hiding from the king. This surprised Dan as he thought the king was too powerful for them to hide.

“Actually, he has ignored us as we aren’t in white elf territory,” the elder said.

“What?” Dan said, shocked at this information. “Just whose territory is it?”

“Most of this area is a free section that any race is welcomed in,” the elder said. “The only problem is responding to any attacks, “the elder said.

“I take it that there is really not much protection then?” Dan asked.

The elder shook his head as he and Dan made their way further into the village. “We only number as few thousand here really of no concern to the king.”

“I just hope that me healing all here, won’t put you and them in more danger,” a worried Dan said.

The elder smiled as he nodded, “I feel that we are more ignored than most.”

Dan smiled back, though was more worried than he actually felt. Further into the village, Dan saw that almost all the elves were sicker than he thought.

It took quite a long time before the elders could get most of the people to come to be healed. After two days, they were convinced that they had most of them.

Dan decided that, after all the hassle that they had, he might not go to as many elf camps for a while. He thought about the true stubbornness of people that would rather die than be helped.

The elders thanked Dan before he and the others started to walk out of the village. They were walking for a few hours when they entered another heavily forested area.

Dan and the others were suddenly on high alert as they felt that they were being watched. Dan wasn’t sure where it was from, but the size was definitely not a small party.

They had traveled a few more hours, almost feeling that they were being herded to a certain point. It was when they came to a large clearing that the ambush was sprung.

From the north, a huge number of Goblins attacked. From the south, Orcs appeared driving another army of Goblins. On both east and west Trolls appeared with several spectators.
