Still, Dan had to take care of them, they were his responsibility. He’d just finished when he again wobbled on his legs, then he swayed.
He had to stay awake, too many of them were out. He wished that more of them had their shields though, which they had helped greatly.
It was at that moment that Dan heard a familiar voice that he couldn’t place. “Are you all alright? Dan! Oh my god Dan!”
Dan thought they were under attack ‘til he saw a familiar feline face appear above him. “Danea?” When the cat’s face nodded, Dan smiled as he tried to lift a hand, then everything went dark.
All of the females there with him ran to him. They wanted to ensure he was still breathing.
“What happened?” Danea asked as she held Dan.
“We were attacked,” En’tra said. “He was alright ‘til we were overcome. Then his eyes glowed gold and he seemed to vanish. When he appeared, at least ten goblins and three trolls were dead.”
Danea nodded her head, “It seems that he has exhausted his self again.”
The eight females with him sighed in relief, then nodded. A movement behind them had all of them turning each powered up to the maximum.
“Hold all of you, it’s my father,” Danea said as her father stared at all the females that were intensely glowing. Danea looked at all the warriors that were with him, their weapons raised.
Her father stepped forward, “Daughter, what is this? I thought that this one was banned from the village.” Here he indicated Dan.
Danea’s face was shocked, then turned to anger. “Fine father, then I guess I am banned also. When the village starts to die, and you have no other recourse,” here her eyes squinted. “Don’t call me or him, the only one who has a cure for the disease. As soon as he is healed, we are gone!”
Her father’s head snapped back at the venom in her voice, as did all the warriors with him. But daughter your people, we,” her father started, trying to save face.
Danea held up a hand, “Save it, I am apparently dead to you and the village. When it has died, then it will be. Salvation is here, and your superstitions are killing us. I refuse to stay and watch all of them die.”
Their raised voices had roused a sleeping Dan, who was shocked at the anger from Danea. A warrior at the back of her father’s party threw a spear at Danea that Dan pointed at it, turning it ash.
Danea’s face twisted into rage as she pointed at the warrior. Dan jumped up when he saw her intent getting between the two of them. A heavy stream of thick wooden projectiles impacted against Dan’s chest, causing a grunt. The impact took Dan off his feet several meters back.
With a scream, Danea ran to him tears heavy from her eyes. “No! Please, please, please,” she was yelling as she got to Dan.
Dan had felt them, but that was all, a message came: {you have gained Nature aspect.}
Fast growth
Wooden spears
Plant communication
Wooden shield
A shocked Dan looked up into the tear-streaked face of Danea. “Wow, four spells,” he said as it shocked her. “Nature aspect.”
“You, you have the nature aspect?” A shocked Danea said as she looked at the plants that were sprouting beside and under them.
“Yeah apparently,” he said as he tried to stand. A chair of a type grew under him as he sat. Danea was shocked when all the projectiles fell into his lap. She immediately started to feel his chest and stomach.
Dan had to admit her soft hands were a great comfort. “I saw them hit you. I thought I had killed you, now you say that you have my power also?!”
Dan nodded as her mouth fell open. “It appears so Danea.”
A grumbling behind them had Dan making several shields between them and her father’s party. “What have you done to her? She is,” her father started.
Dan turned toward her father and his party, his eyes glowing a hellish red. “She’s a grown-ass adult that you, and your supposed people,” the last word spit out in disgust. “Don’t respect me, mine or her!” Here Dan pointed at the warrior that thrown the spear. “YOU! I should end you as slowly and as painfully as I can.”
The fearful warrior suddenly screamed then was cut off as Dan raised his hand along with the male. When he was about three meters high, Danea placed a hand on Dan’s shoulder.
He turned his head to stare at her as she shook her head no. He grunted as he dropped his hand and the warrior like a sack of rocks.
“Thank you, Dan, I know that you are not a bad man,” here she turned to the group, then toward her village. “Unlike a certain people that I am sick to mention.”
Dan nodded then said, “Get what you wish to take with you. Your servitude to these things,” he said with a growl. “Is finished, one would think that they aligned with the Elvin King. Yeah, they’re about that filthy.”
Her father started to speak as Dan held up a hand.
“Think on what you’re about to say. You are not even worthy of talking to her. So as I said, choose your words very carefully,” Dan said the words a low hiss, this time his hands and arms were glowing.
“You,” he looked at Danea, then dropped his head in shame. “I will miss you daughter, as will the village,” he started.
Dan suddenly stopped glowing as he slapped the male backward at least twenty meters into the trees. He turned to Danea, “Get your things, we are gone.”
Danea’s mother cried as her daughter told her, slightly cringed as Dan touched her, then moved back. “I am sorry mother, you are the only one that is healed from the disease. Please leave here before the others are all dead. Father will be a long time coming back as he angered Dan. I love you, goodbye mother.”
With that, they all left, walking past the hunting group that was attending her father. Almost to a man, they all had their eyes looking down in shame.
Dan stared daggers, at them as he wrapped all of them in shadows, then they vanished in front of them. Several hours later, the group entered the village, Danea’s father with a bruised face.
Upon entering his home, he saw that his mate was packing. “What goes on here?” he demanded.
She looked at him with a severe glare, “What goes is me. You have more than disgraced this family and our people. I will not stay and watch all of them die because you are too stupid to realize that he was the cure. After five hundred years and no cure, it walks in, and you send it away. Stupid no, you’re an idiot.”
Finished she started past him when he grabbed her. “You’re going nowhere,” he said. He then increased the pressure on her arm. She drew back a hand and slapped him across the face, hurling him to the floor.
“Oh, but I am, you have neither the strength nor the will to keep me here any longer. I am sure my mother’s village to the north will be much more accommodating and alive,” she said with a sneer spitting on him as she left.
Six others were waiting for her as she exited her home the last time. A young male stepped forward, “We wish to travel with you. Word has spread fast though we are the only ones that agree with you.”
She looked at the three couples and nodded, “We leave now. I will see that the young human heals my mother’s village.” She looked around her ex-village, “This place is dead to me and the world now.”
“A human?” One of the females said, “Then it’s true? It has been said that all of the dragon clans are healed, as are the Harpies and the wolf kin nearby. There are also rumors that several hundred white elves have been healed.”
Danea’s mother nodded her head, “as have I.” This caused all six of their mouths to drop open. “I am hoping that he can heal my mother’s village as well.”
They exited the village as many looked at them with scorn then turned away. It will take a hell of a lot for them to survive, let alone be cured. A fact that she was sure wouldn’t happen.
Dan and the now nine females appeared a great distance further northeast. They then set up a camp with Dan staying distant from the females.
Ella and Bell watched him as they became worried. Both went to Danea, their worry even higher when they saw the concern on her face.
Danea turned as they approached, a slight look of fear on her face. “I’m sorry that I have caused as much worry in Dan as I have,” Danea said.
Both the witches shook their heads, “I am afraid that it wasn’t you, Danea. It was more your people though your father pushed him past his breaking point,” Ella said.
“The thing is,” Bell took over, “we are afraid that he is blaming himself for what happened. Also, the fact that they’d rather die than accept help. That’s not sitting that well with him.”
“He needs all of us, but for right now, I think that he needs you the most. He’s feeling guilt that he shouldn’t, guilt that I am afraid only you can dissuade him from,” Ella said.
“Me? What can I do that the rest of you can’t?” Danea asked.
“The guilt is that he took you from your people, your family, that he wouldn’t heal them because they refused,” Ella continued.
“That’s on them, nothing to do with him. Their own stupidity, they wouldn’t listen to him, they practically asked and told him to leave,” Danea said, upset now.
“Please, for all our sakes, talk to him and let him know all this. Before it goes too far and we lose him,” Ella said.
Danea looked into the faces of the two witches, then at the rest of them there, pleading looks on all of them. Danea nodded as she walked slowly to Dan, trying to think of what to say.
“Dan,” she said softly when she was closer, “may I sit with you?”
“You really sure you want to?” Dan said, a look of worry on his face. “I was afraid that you’d never want to talk to me again.”
“Why the hell not? I wanted to go with you when you left. You saved my life. I wanted nothing more than to go with you,” she said.
“Now because of me you have,” Dan started, then was interrupted.
