Chapter 3
“Are you sure that we are safe? I love you and this house. I labored for a long time for both of you. I do not want to lose either of you,” he said.
“I don’t think she can feel me, especially when I don’t use my power. The thing is, I could swear that she was doubting what she was doing. The things I told her seemed to shock her, though I don’t know why,” I told him.
He sat there taking in everything, deep in thought as I hoped that he had answers. Answers that I couldn’t come up with.
“I can’t really be sure, but you told her nothing but the truth, right?” he asked, which I nodded yes to. “It might be that all the others have tried to lie to her, and it was a shock. It just seems that way.”
“So,” I started, “She might just be confused? Great then the next time she will be out for blood.”
Dad shook his head, “Maybe not, especially since she believes you. You might have impressed her, though as a part of the military I can’t be sure.”
I sighed, why in the hell did everything have to be so damn complicated? Then I shook my head, who was I fooling? High School had been nothing but complicated.
Almost a thousand miles across the country, the woman known only as the Sensor was sitting in meditation. What this supposed rogue had shown her had opened her eyes all the way.
With extreme concentration, she felt across the country outside a city in Virginia. Delving down several hundred feet, she connected with a teen female.
Mom! The teen thought excited, they haven’t hurt me yet. I am concentrating on strengthening my guards. I have more than doubled them, but I am nowhere as strong as you.
The Sensor sighed as she nodded her head. She could feel the increased resistance her daughter had. She knew it wasn’t enough, but at least now she could resist almost an hour.
Baby, I have found a natural that is far stronger than me. The thing is, she is just at the start of her power. I am hoping that I can help her to grow stronger and learn her abilities.
I hope that you succeed, mom. I am so tired of these assholes. They don’t care that I am tired and don’t feel well. They just keep pushing harder and harder.
I know baby, I am hoping that this new power can help me to release you then me. I haven’t had one as strong as her before. She brushed me aside as if it was nothing. I’m still trying to contact her. I have never felt one that can hide like they do. I’m not even sure they are male or female.
I hope that they will help us mom, I miss you so badly. Oh, their coming, the teen said, then disconnected.
The Sensor sighed as a few tears left her eyes. Soon she hoped, soon, they’d be together again.
A few moments later the leader burst into her room uninvited. “We detected you using your power. Have you located them yet?”
In an almost monotone, the Sensor replied, “No, they almost seem to have shut their abilities off. It is the strangest thing I have ever seen, though I am still searching,” the Sensor said.
“I hope that I don’t have to impress upon you the importance of finding this rogue.” They are by far the most dangerous to date,” the group leader said.
The Sensor nodded her head, “It is understood. More than just the security of the world is at stake. This I understand more than anything.”
The leader nodded with a snide expression as he stared at her for a moment. It was extremely hard to read the woman as most of her emotion had been bled out of her. She was, after all, the highest with psi power that had been created. Almost all the rest had descended into insanity; they still hadn’t figured out how she survived.
The leader stared at her for a few more moments, then left. He shook his head as he headed for his room. Yeah, he really didn’t trust anyone that he couldn’t read. It didn’t matter that their emotions had supposedly been bled away.
Upon entering his room, he took out his phone to call his boss. “Sir,” he said after one ring.
“Has the situation changed at your end with the Sensor,” his boss said.
“I’m not really sure, sir. After I told her what you advised me, she seemed to straighten up. Though sir, I am still not that sure about using an asset that I can not read,” the leader said.
“As strong as the loyalty that was implanted in her, we shouldn’t have any more problems. The only thing that can break that is if she is more loyal to something else. Well, that and we have her daughter. I’m sure we shouldn’t have any more trouble with her,” the boss said.
“That’s the thing when I reminded her? She said, for now, sir, for now. I am afraid that we may be losing control of her,” the squad leader said.
“Alright, the boss said as he called the lead scientist over, we’ll get started on this right now,” he said the disconnected.
The tall man sighed as he looked at the lead scientist. “I am afraid that we’re going to have to go with the contingency plan. It appears that we may be losing the Sensor. Are all four of the controllers ready?”
The lead scientist typed on his tablet and shook his head. The first three, the mental, pain and heart ones, are ready. The last for muscle control isn’t complete yet. The mental is buried so deep that I am sure that no procedure can remove it. The heart is between the separating walls of the upper and lower chambers,” the scientist said.
“I was hoping that the four ways were complete so we couldn’t lose control. At least we can eliminate her if we have to,” the tall man said.
The lead scientist nodded as he went through the information. “I have the remotes linked to your personal comp. The last one is taking far longer to bond to her important areas. One touch, and she should be dead within three minutes. One thing though, activation of more than one at a time will in effect cancel all of them.”
The tall man stared at the scientist, “I thought that your crew had fixed that error.”
The scientist shook his head, “In order for the devices to work, we have to use the frequency and strength that we are. It’s just mathematics, plain and simple, that’s all.”
The tall man nodded his head, “Yes, that’s the nature of the job, she is, after all, expendable.” Here the tall man smiled as the scientist just nodded his head.
Back at the motel, the leader had them all pack up as they started to leave. “I want you to do your best to locate the rogue. If you have to push harder, then do it. We need to find them before they start killing innocent citizens.”
The woman known as the Sensor nodded as she sat in the van and started to concentrate harder than she had. She stretched out her feelings and power ‘til her mind started to scream for her to stop.
Only for a moment did she feel anything, then it was gone even faster. She shook her head as she started to get confounded. She knew it was there; it was almost as if they were hiding or didn’t exist.
This got another idea in her head as she tried again to contact the supposed rogue. It was something that she and her daughter used to do. It was so low power that nothing but a person listening could hear.
The Sensor wasn’t sure if the rogue would actually hear it though. As gently as she could, the Sensor started to push her thoughts toward the southwest.
She tried every few minutes ‘til she hopede that she’d get an answer.
I was sitting in the living room trying to relax when I at first felt a little nudge. I wasn’t sure what it was, but I withdrew even further.
The problem was that I was still feeling the nudge, though not as much. Her father was worried that they had been discovered.
Finally, getting irritated, I opened a bit to see what this was. I was surprised when it was the same woman from before, though she was a lot further away.
After a few hours, I finally sent a letter message to her. WHAT the hell do you want? I wrote. I told you to leave me alone, or I wouldn’t be responsible for the deaths it would cause.
We need to talk. I do not think you are a rogue, but I have to pursue you. The government has my daughter and have promised to end her. I am asking for help, can you?
My father was staring at me as my mouth dropped open. I mean, I could feel that the woman was desperate, she wasn’t lying. Though I could feel that there was something wrong.
I wrote, “I need to see and feel her. The problem is, I need to be a lot closer to you to do these things.
For a few minutes I didn’t receive anything, me thinking that she had given up. Then she started to send me information as to where they would be.
I went quiet, then I discussed all this with my father. He wanted to make sure that the woman couldn’t find me or anything about me.
We were talking for hours as I weighed his concerns. I listened as he told me his fears and his love for me.
When I finally tried to contact the woman again, I was surprised she was still awake.
Once again, I wrote what I wanted to say and placed it before her. For a bit she was quiet as I thought that she would reject what I wanted to do.
Finally, I was about to fall asleep when I heard her agree. I told her I was across the country. That it might be a day or two to reach her.
She said that if they were going to leave, she would advise me. I closed my eyes as I thought that this might be a trap, so I had to be ready.
The next day, I kissed dad goodbye as another car met me. I was on the jet within an hour, in a car a few hours later.
After I was on the ground, I could definitely feel the woman a lot stronger. I could tell she was across the city, though, I could almost feel and see what I needed from her.
I was surprised cause this was the strongest that I had been able to do this. I set out getting fairly close to her though I was still afraid that she’d attack me. Even worse was the squad that was with her that might kill me.
