Chapter 4

I only heard the complete details a year later. Malacouy almost seemed to explode as he seemed to put all he had into breaking her hold on him.

Finally, the loss of blood seemed to make him realize he was going to die. With a final hiss and a spit at Leanna, Malacouy vanished, leaving a huge blood puddle.

Leanna looked at the other councilors as she bowed, “Since our council is sneered at and made fun of,” here, she smiled. “I hope that you can survive this as we,” she pointed to her people. “Are leaving the panel. Happy life what you have left.” Here she and her people vanished.

The entire panel was immediately up in arms, insulted that the telepaths had left the panel. Many were scared because they had no idea what in the hell was going to happen nor the others’ thoughts.

Leanna took her people as far from the panel and Malacouy as she could. She apologized to them as she hoped that this was the right decision.

Now she thought there was the business of informing me. She cringed as she thought that I was going to be completely angry at her.

She took a deep breath as she opened a thought path to me. I was surprised when I got it and could feel the tension that she was feeling.

“Has something happened? I can feel that you are under a lot of pressure. Please tell me that you didn’t go against the panel,” I said, afraid for her.

“No,” Leanna said after a moment. “Though me, our council and the rest of the telepaths have left the panel.”

I am sure that she felt me cringe at what she said. “I can’t do much for all of you. I might be able to bring some of you back here, but it would take a long time to get all of you.”

“We are aware of this. We are tired of never being taken seriously, sneered at and the brunt of snide jokes. Any that you can take there will ensure that we survive. As it is now, I am not sure of that,” Leanna said.

I nodded as I advised Iqua of what I was going to do, to which she agreed. I appeared next to her as I took ahold of ten males and females. I and the ten of them appeared near the village as Iqua welcomed them.

I made at least another ten trips, taking the weakest before I felt fatigue. I appeared the eleventh time, stumbling a bit.

I could see that there were several hundred more. I also saw that almost all that were left were far more powerful than the hundred that I had removed.

I shook my head as we had barely saved that many. I actually grabbed twenty this time and vanished, appearing with a major headache. I saw that Iqua was worried as she tried to stop me as I vanished again.

I took ahold of another twenty, then vanished, this time it took a few minutes. When we appeared, I fell to my knees as the fatigue was like a wave that was threatening to engulf me.

I’m sorry I didn’t get more, I thought as I fell on my face. Rather I would have if Iqua hadn’t caught me.

“Rest,” I heard her say as my eyes started to close. “You have saved a great many, some almost strong enough to protect us alone.”

I smiled as I tried to kiss her, then the darkness took me. The dream, I guess it was, was filled with the tall female telepath.

Hello Leanna said Yes, you are dreaming though. I have hitched a ride to talk to you. What you did is an almost guarantee the saving of the telepath council. I am afraid though that they will search for us.”

“I’ll get more, all if I can. I have a few charms here that might help. Are you strong enough to hold them off a while?” I asked.

Without the weaker ones to watch over, it will be far easier, though they are out to kill us. I hope that you can get all of us, though we understand if you can’t,” Leanna said.

I tried to look within to see if my power had grown, though at the moment I couldn’t see it. Several hours later, I awoke feeling sore but rested more.

I kissed Iqua and our little girl as I vanished. I appeared next to Leanna almost a minute after I had left. She had another sixty waiting as I took twenty, then was back a minute later taking another twenty.

The third time I appeared, I was surprised I wasn’t as tired as I thought that I’d be. I talked to Leanna, getting an update on Malacouy and those with him.

It seemed that they were now actively searching for her and the other telepaths. We had moved almost half of the four hundred, making their search harder as many were gone.

I mistakenly grabbed thirty, then vanished, it took more than a minute. I once again stumbled a bit as I appeared, though not as bad as before.

When I returned, I was determined to take as many as I could. I should have rested a few moments more as it took almost five minutes for us to appear.

Iqua was there, as were my sisters. I smiled at them, then immediately passed out. Thankfully, they caught me as many of those I had brought back were scared.

I stared at a worried Iqua as she smiled, “Always trying to do more than you can, dear husband. Shh, rest you have time as you have a great many of them now.

“No,” my voice came out as a whisper. “I have to get the rest of them.”

Iqua easily pushed me back down as a few males moved me to our Teepe. This time Leanna was there waiting for me with a large smile.

“You have saved the telepaths with what you have gotten. We will be safe now that all those that are weak and starting out are safe,” she said with a large smile.

I shook my head as I said, “No, I told you I’d get all of them, I intend to. I am stronger than you think,” I told her.

She smiled with a little worry on her face. “Even so, you need a rest, as do most of us. Strength is all good and well, but if you’re too tired to use it, then it’s not good.”

“I’m sorry that I have worried you and,” here Iqua appeared beside me. “This is my wife, Iqua. Iqua this is the leader of the telepath council.”

They both bowed to each other, then Iqua kissed me, then whispered, “She will make a fine second wife.” I looked up, shocked that she had said that.

“Here I thought that you were the jealous one,” I said with shock on my face.

Iqua almost laughed as she stared at me for a moment, “A strong warrior like you needs more than one woman. I know that you love me and always will, but you two need each other as badly as we do.”

“I ... I,” was all that I could get out before Iqua laughed, then moved off with Leanna. I could only shake my head as I feared just what the two of them were talking about.

It seemed only an hour before Leanna appeared before me and with a blush stated, “I accept!” I shook my head in defeat as I knew that Iqua had a plan and, so far, it had worked out.

I sighed as I looked at a wide-eyed and smiling Leanna, “I just have to get you and the rest out of there. I am hoping that I can do it in three trips.”

“Husband, that is a lot of people, your power has grown, though I’m not sure, it has that much. When you awake, we will see, though I am afraid that you might pass if you try to do too much,” a worried Iqua said,

I was about to say something when they were suddenly gone, and then I was opening my eyes. “Ugh,” I said as I held my head a moment. “Feel as if I have been trampled.”

“That happens when one over extends themselves as you have,” Iqua said. “I’m glad that you didn’t dip into your life energy. Then it would be days and not a day.”

I stared at Iqua, “life energy that could kill you as it’s hard to turn off. You either keep taking it or you take too much, both are a death sentence,” I said, shaking.

Iqua nodded her head, “I have seen it, a lot of determination is needed to survive doing that.” Here Iqua stared into my eyes, “I know that you have that much determination, I know you are that powerful. Do not forget that we are here waiting for you, we need you all of us.”

I nodded to her as I kissed her passionately, then Quana, who smiled at me. I vanished, appearing next to Leanna, and a lot smaller group of people.

I took ahold of fifty and blinked out, when I appeared, I smiled as I hardly felt I had used any energy. The second group felt almost the same as I appeared smiling at Iqua.

Leanna smiled as I took ahold of the last group. That’s when I felt Malacouy and at least twenty evil feeling, things approaching.

I looked at Leanna, “I will return for you. I made a promise to you and I will not break it you understand, I WILL return for you.”

When I appeared, I felt a fatigue I hadn’t in a very long time. Iqua saw me and I saw the extreme worry on her face as I vanished.

I took ahold of Leanna and ignored Malacouy as he appeared smiling like a snake. I leered at him and hit him with a bolt of electricity. “You’re dead you freak,” he yelled as he fell.

I then faded with Leanna, the only thing was that I felt my energy start to drain far faster than before. I needed to make it. I had to. I had made a promise, I felt more energy within me as I reached for it.

I was suddenly energized as we moved a lot faster approaching Iqua’s and my time. I knew we’d die if I hit it too fast. I cut all the power I was using, feeling like a piece of myself was ripped out.

We landed hard but not as hard as I thought we would. I managed to land with Leanna on top of me, letting out an umph.

I tried to stand holding Leanna and smiled at Iqua. “By the great spirit, no! You told me you wouldn’t, dear husband, no.”

I smiled at her and said, “I’m fine, I’m,” That’s when I felt the deep, bone-weary exhaustion. “I had too Iqua, I had to, I made you and her a promise, I love you,” I then keeled over into her arms.

I’m not sure if the screams that sounded were from Iqua, Leanna or both, as I nearly stopped breathing. This time I didn’t dream, though I wished I had, feeling so alone.
