Chapter 1: Me, With a Superpower

I have a superpower, of sorts. I can make my skin super hard, diamond hard, which awesome, right? Well, not so much, in fact, kinda sucks. Like, what do you do with it? I tried the superheroine route, but high buildings take time to climb, and you can only really see the streets around them. Sure, the cool air up there felt awesome, and my brown cape often flapped in a cool way, but I didn’t have a personal photographer nor comic artist, so while I looked cool, kinda wasted.

And I needed to have a job.

But the worst, I knew the bad guys, but couldn’t do anything about them. The group of thugs who hung out in the park, played loud music, and harassed women who walked by, like me. The law didn’t allow me to beat them up, hog-tie them, and leave them for the police. Apparently, they have the same rights as me, which I totally get, intellectually, but not emotionally. That just feels wrong.

So I moved back home. Well, not back, back, rather, back to a similar town, where I could buy a house for cheap, work as a receptionist at the local mine, and put this super heroine stuff behind me. I also didn’t want the government to find out about me. They would either make me a super soldier, experiment on me, or both.
