Story 2: Breen

Humanity disgusts the Cre-Xy. Humanity is the only species the Cre-Xy had ever run into that managed to be both deceiving, untrustworthy, and highly developed. The Cre-Xy saw potential in humans as a clever tool in battle. The human side that went to the home world with the Cre-Xy was incorporated at a higher level than any other species. The humans were cloned and redesigned. The leaders of the Cre-Xy humanity were 4 key scientists, and 4 key generals. The Cre-Xy knew they had to keep full tabs on humanity so their deceptive nature doesn’t back fire on them. The 4 scientists are: Liam Schollick, bioengineer; Howard Neuman, Cre-Xy technology specialist; Kelly Vance, Psychology specialist; and Dr. Fredrick Breen, the most important human to ever live.

Dr. Breen sat in his study, looking over the map of the known multiverse. This map had been constantly updated by the Cre-Xy for uncounted years as they explored countless worlds. The largest dot was the Cre-Xy universe, a constantly expanding structure. The multiverse, to Breen, was small. He was looking at millions of dots interconnected across 4 dimensional space, every dot was a universe. That didn’t bug him. The fact that the observable universe wasn’t able to even fit on the map didn’t bother him. The border bothered him.

The Cre-Xy refused to answer what the edge was, what it looked like, what it was made of. As Dr. Breen studied this expanse, he worked alongside Professor Howard, who had studied the Cre-Xy portal technology. It was an inefficient and inaccurate system. Dr. Breen saw a challenge.

“Hey, Frederick, Howard, we need to talk.” The lead general, Alfred, called in. “This takes top priority.”

Dr. Breen and Howard followed Alfred to a storage room, where Dr. Schollick and another general, Vessa, were plotting.

“We were hoping to learn how to use the portal devices.” Dr. Schollick responded. “I was able to get something to give humanity a winning edge against the Cre-Xy.”

“I think I have something better.” Dr. Breen responded. “I think I could improve the portal device.”

Everyone looked at him, interested.

“I may be able to improve the Cre-Xy portal calculations. It will just take time.”

Everyone agreed. They didn’t want to wait, but they trusted Breen. Dr. Schollick was tasked to modify humans to create sub categories to better fit the Cre-Xy purposes. These modified humans are simple foot soldier clones meant to be a simple army the Cre-Xy can use at will. The top humans were granted immortality as well, so they wouldn’t need replacements.

Dr. Breen, portal system concept.

One slice of the space you interact with is 3d, but the multiverse is made up of 3d planes stacked in 4d, the 4th dimension being w. Time in this case is the 5th dimension and seems to affect all of the multiverse equally according to relativity. The smallest unit of space is 10⁻²² meters, which is the length of the fundamental particle known as a unit or unix.

The average universe is 2.810²⁶ meters across and the 3d planes that the human universe is on is 8.410¹⁰⁴ meters across. This is just one of countless slices, as you get closer to the center of the 4d sphere, the edge gets further away until you reach the very middle, then from either direction the edge seems to shrink as you move from slice to slice. Making a system that closes a point the size of 10⁻²² from a specific slice and a selection area of 10¹⁰⁴ is unfathomable.

The team of head scientists also studied the Cre-Xy to see what exactly their enemy was. The Cre-Xy were able to use Unix fundamental particles as a form of telepathy. They retain the full memories of every Cre-Xy in their family’s tree, making just one a lineage of millions. They lived to be from 6,000 to 18,000 years old. They keep themselves separate from the humans and make sure information about them is limited. They think of only the most efficient outcome. They don’t over compromise safety or utility, they make everything the bare minimum yet perfect for the task.

The Cre-Xy universe is ancient in terms of universe life spans. Usually universe matter slowly clumps and compresses into a single point in pure void space until it explodes, and then spits and mixes with other universe matter and begins to collect in small spots and start over again. The Cre-Xy made sure their universe never stopped expanding by having an ever expanding machine that collects and builds universe matter constantly. It’s a slow process but keeps their universe from collapsing.

Dr. Breen’s research began to stretch further and further as he studied the sciences known to the Cre-Xy and integrated it to the portal problem. While he worked, the other humans served the Cre-Xy with the now ongoing war with the humans that were scattered. It all boiled until the human generals were done waiting for Dr. Breen to finish his model.

“Dr. Frederick, do you know what today is?” Vessa walked in.

Dr. Breen continues tweaking a processing unit. “No, I don’t.”

“It’s the 1,027th anniversary of your portal project.”

“I see, is that all?”

“Is that- You know we have all suffered and rotted away for these Xy, and you’ve just waisted away at your workbench, promising every 100 years you are ‘almost done.’ Tell me, Breen, are you almost done?”

He nods.

“You can’t even say yes anymore. Admit it, you can’t improve on the Cre technology. Just say it and move on, find another plan that won’t take another thousand years to complete.”
