Story 5
Dr Breen leads Vessa and Liam to an altar.
“here we are.”
“What is this?” Vessa asks
“An altar.”
“Like ... magic? Wasn’t aliens and sci-fi and higher dimensions enough?”
“Theres some good stories later that rely on magic being introduced.”
“Later ... on?” Liam asks
“Yeah, in the source material.”
“What do you mean, source material?”
“Well this is just a retelling of... “ Dr Breen stops. He slumps against the altar. “It’s not good enough. It needs to be more.”
Was being everything not enough?
“Who said that?”
Desfelvar Ultum, I’ve been watching this latest ramble of your stories. I even brought guests.
“Why bother ... it’s never going to work.”
Your endless retelling of your old adventures. Trying to relive your golden days? Trying to put them into words?
“Words can’t describe everything. You can’t put the events in order and tell them coherently.”
You knew taking down the high gods would lead to this. Stuck on a black stage, trying to call out to someone, anyone.
“I have control of everything else, why can’t I control you mid gods?”
It’s our purpose to be random. What did you call the master race last iteration? Combine?
“Ugh ... leave me be.”
You saw what was beyond the great walls. What was outside the multiverse.
“Yes. It was nothing. This place was finite, but that was true, unending darkness.”
Once everything was the dream of experiment 13. James Pira. He dreamed the multiverse, and when he woke up his dream was everything. So whose to say we aren’t still in that kids dream?
“It was easy to tell. We acted like it was all ok as we used his mental world for study.”
Then is this your dream?
“Then why haven’t I woken up yet? Why does the sinking feeling that my friends don’t exist anymore go away? This was never meant to have an audience. To understand everything in full is a task that took me forever. Why have them take forever too?”
