Derrick and most of the ships stayed there as they and Mary worked to stabilize the planet. Slowly, seven of the eight recovered, though the one was even slower.
The teen’s parents never left the Med-bay, wanting to be there when he awoke. It was almost a week before the teen’s eyes flickered open.
A look of panic showed in his eyes even when they settled on his parents. “Momma, poppa, where are we? Where are the others, are they safe?”
Both his parents cried to see that he was awake and better. “We are on one of the Emperor’s ships.”
“I see,” the teen said, suddenly turning serious. “May I speak with him?” They nodded as Mary put in a call to Derrick.
A moment later, Derrick appeared, the teen tried to bow to him. Which Derrick, stopped him.
“Sire, I am glad that I survived, ah I see that you met my brother. I am Fravick, Gregor’s second son,” the teen said, making Mary gasp.
A moment later, a holo-gram of Grather appeared. “Hello brother, it is indeed good to see you.”
“As you as well, thankfully, we have time to complete the mission,” here the teen turned to stare at Mary. “Mother?” he said, then promptly passed out.
Derrick could only shake his head as he looked on. Looking at Mary, he was suddenly thinking that this had happened last time.
Granther shook his head, “it was quite a shock when I saw my mother. I can personally tell you that it is greatly overwhelming.”
Derrick sighed as he looked at the holo-gram, “Let me know when he awakes,” Derrick said. “I imagine that he has information for me as you did.”
Derrick left muttering about people keeping things from him. He reached the mainframe of the Palace A.I. closing the door and activating the shield.
Pulling out a huge data cube, he activated the holo-gram of Gregor. “What kind of game are you playing,” Derrick shouted. “That’s now four members of the first royal family now, and I am still in the damn dark about all this.”
“It’s all about secrecy and,” Gregor started.
Derrick’s face twisted into a mask of fury. “Cut the shit Gregor, there’s something else going on here, and I am not happy about it. Now either tell me or it’s going to be isolated and the hell with you.”
“I can’t, the programming doesn’t allow me to,” Gregor started, then went quiet as Derrick stared daggers at him.
“I am the first emperor in over two centuries, as I said, I am about to instigate lockdown of this room. Only I will be able to enter and right now? I don’t really have a damn reason to.”
“The program won’t release ‘til all final parts atr revealed,” Gregor said.
Derrick threw Gregor a heated look, removed the cube and locked the door. He typed in a code that only he could open, they loudly stomped off.
He went to sit in his command room as his temper was fuming. All this power and shit was being held from him, this shit needed to stop.
The more he thought about it, it seemed the madder he got. What in the hell was so bad that Gregor went to such damn heavy secret, security?
Mary appeared before he could drive his fist through the screen in front of him. “Sire, do you need time to relax?” Mary asked.
Derrick growled as he looked at his immobilized arm and hand. “If I could stop time I’d,” Derrick started, then stopped as he thought of Tempro.
Shit he thought was that even possible without screwing the hell out of the timeline? He looked at Mary as she started to shake her head. “Sire, you put forth time guides to keep from doing things like this.”
Mary stared at Derrick as she could see the wheels turning in his mind. Derrick nodded as his face broke into a wide smile.
“Contact Tempro, I need him to run several simulations,” Derrick said. He then sat to start calculations of his own.
“Sire, I have Tempro on the line,” Mary said.
“Tempro, I need you to run calculations of what would need for us to travel back a few days or more,” Derrick said.
“Yes sire, running them now, any parameters and specifications?” Tempro asked.
“I want to know if we gathered information about the last month. Feeding it into Mary, so that she can be far better prepared for all that has happened,” Derrick said.
“Yes sire, I can do that, do you wish the same memory extension as before. As you recall, it took a toll on you,” Tempro said.
Derrick swallowed hard, “The same Tempro,” here he turned to Mary. “Lockdown protocall Mary. I am the Emperor and I will bare this as always.”
“Sire,” Mary had started to protest. “Studies have shown that too many times could cause a psychotic break, we,” here Derrick stopped her again.
“You and Shelby have both been in my conscious and subconscious mind. The both of you know how to save me if you have to,” Derrick said. “Don’t make me make it a coded order. We just got all of you back, I don’t want to screw that up.”
Mary sighed and, against the regulations that Gregor had placed, they waited. This Emperor was far different than any that had ever been. Mary had to agree that this one was far smarter than Gregor.
Less than an hour later, the com. beeped from Tempro. “Sire,” he said, bowing when his holo-gram appeared. “I have finished with the calculations. We will have to limit all contact and if you do have any, we’d have to fix them.”
“You’re referring to what I had to do during Gregor’s time,” Derrick said.
“That is correct sire, the more contacts you make, the longer it will be to return,” Conner said.
“Sire, I must warn you again about this. The last time you came very close to dying. As there is no heir, I almost have to protest,” Mary said. “Though older codes are in effect stopping me from acting.”
Derrick released his sigh that he’d been holding, he then nodded to Mary, then said, “IMT Tempro, break orbit as soon as I arrive.”
“Yes Sire,” Conner said as Derrick vanished. Tempro was in tran-warp as soon as Derrick sat.
A small craft far more invisible than the EIG’s, had followed with ease. Inside, a familiar old male with a scar down his leg nodded.
“Vector -oo3o .04.25.30 enact, keep us hidden when we appear,” the older male said. This was a holo-graphic woman with a stern look on her face. “Yes, I know the danger, and no. I am the only one who could do this.
The small craft vanished and appeared a month earlier. It was a full five minutes before Tempro’s huge bulk appeared.
“Confirm arrival and subsequent breakdown,” the older male said. “Confirm location near the space yards, and Ripalon energy levels. Umm, I see, no where what can incapacitate you, Grey.”
The older male watched and flinched as Tempro was suddenly, almost dead in the water. With a sigh he whispered, “So it begins again.”
Damn Gregor and his trying to save the future. It was bad enough that the current, brilliant, Emperor was the reason for it.
He pulled a small gelatin-like cube that he held to the control panel. “I want you to send this out to your older Uncle. I realize the time rules, this has to happen, or we will cease to exist. You forget that he and I wrote the time regulations.”
The second holo-gram nodded, then an ultra-fast data stream went to Tempro. The small ship immediately moved, though Derrick noticed a flicker of energy, shit he thought.
Tempro was surprised at the data burst, on an old channel that was for EIGs only. “Sire, I have a solution for the Ripalon energy damage,” Tempro said.
Derrick nodded, then sent a confirmation to his mystery benefactor. It simply read:thanks again for the save.
The old man laughed at the message, so the current emperor had detected him, figures. The man had innovated much up to his time. The older man watched as Tempro went through a rapid adjustment of hull plating, then trans-warp re-start.
The older man nodded, it wasn’t as good as his time, but it was a hell of a lot better than what they had here. “I know I can’t do anymore, I just want to watch. This was the greatest intellect of almost all emperors.”
Inside Tempro, Derrick looked at the data pack they had received, then nodded. He knew that the benefactor wouldn’t have helped unless they didn’t have what they needed.
Still would take several hours to complete, but they would survive. After ten hours, he and Tempo worked to gather all the info that they needed.
This included energy readings and a trip to the Cregon homeworld. The things Derrick saw, would haunt him for years to come.
Everything that they recorded, was sent to Mary through, rapid coded, EIG channels. Mary the whole time tried to locate the signals only to be stumped as nothing seemed to be there. The EIG channels surprised her the most as the mystery grew for a long time.
Mary puzzled through it ‘til the day after Derrick and Tempro vanished, then reappeared. Conner had a new configuration of his outer hull, one harder to detect and almost Ripalon energy resistant.
Well, Mary thought, it looked like something good came from it after all. “Sire,” Mary contacted them as soon as they stopped, all packets were received and actions taken from then.”
“Good, I’ll be back as soon as I can. Also, let Kimison and Rayburn know that as soon as they are finished healing, they are to report,” Derrick said.
“Yes sire, all the implements that were to be sent to them are loaded in Tempro’s data banks,” Mary said. “Also, your wife, the Empress, is awaiting your return with great trepidation.”
Derrick sighed, he’d been afraid of this, now he had to placate and pacify her also. That was not going to be easy without letting slip what he’d been up to. There was also the fact that she was a hell of a lot smarter than almost all females.
Derrick almost expected that Mary would deposit him in the throne room. He hadn’t expected Shelby to be sitting on her throne. One look at his face, had her shaking hers. He was being ultra secretive again, it would be like pulling blood from a vegetable.
She held a hand up, stopping him from talking, making his head snap back. So that’s what he looked like when he did it, he thought.
“I know that you have a very convoluted and cryptic explanation for what transpired. I also see that you’ve been gone a few weeks. Please clean up so we can discuss what little you’ll tell me,” Shelby said.
Damn, Derrick thought, concise and to the point, just like he liked it. He turned and headed for their rooms. “Can you tell how far he went back?” Shelby asked, surprising Mary.
Mary bowed low as she contemplated her answer. “As you know, I can not answer that, as I can not actually track tachyons. That is an ability only my son Tempro and his wing mate his sister have,” Mary said fondly.
“So in reality, you have three children?” Shelby asked, to which Many shook her head.
“No, I in fact had six, four of which have reappeared here, two recently,” Mary said with a look of longing on her face.
“SIx? My but you were very active,” Shelby said. “I know some of this, as I have a piece of Shelby’s memories, though not all. There are times I,” here Shelby stared at Mary, “feel as if you are my mother.”
Mary bowed to Shelby, “I am honored that you feel that way, thank you.”
