A story in the Damsels In Distress Universe
Professor Edwin Jackson taught history, for the simple reason that he had a desire to live in historical times. Although offered many times to go to Chaos, he had always refused. He knew that the suggestion of a medieval world with Damsels in Distress was a result of the misguided imaginings of his good friend Gerald Jones. Better late than never.
The opening act of a true space opera. A cynical officer whose career wasn't exactly going great is given a shot at glory and accepts for the wrong reasons. A ship that should not even exist finds itself circling the changeover of eras, the good times have passed and the storms are approaching. A galactic alliance on the brink of a new age, the many parts that make its whole unaware of each other. A hastily-gathered crew learning to become a unit, not by choice, but by necessity.

During the Earth-Silth conflicts, two commanders of opposing warships played a game of chicken at one of the outer known solar systems, the result being a head-on collision and two ships fused together at the bows. After the cease fire agreement plans were made to salvage what they could from the ships and Alain from Earth was sent as part of a two man crew to recover components from the Earth vessel while a team from the Silth would handle theirs. Nothing turned out to be as expected.
A Not-Quite Human Story Unable to find a home and acceptance on Earth, an intrepid band of misplaced youth seek their ancestral home among the stars. Unfortunately, their reception is not what they hoped. The home they discover is a hostile environment, involved in a huge interstellar war with a hostile alien species. Viewed as untrusted interlopers, they search for a place in a universe with no use for them, and no place turn for assistance. One chapter has some explicit interspecies sex, but it's part of the plot.
Thomas Morgan, a disillusioned former U.S. Army soldier, is drifting through life as a salvager in the deserts of the Southwest. Haunted by his past and seeking purpose, he stumbles across a bizarre artifact in the ruins of a decommissioned military research facility—a sleek, palm-sized orb pulsating with energy. The orb, a self-contained AI named Solace, introduces itself as an ancient construct designed by a lost alien civilization. Solace reveals that hidden beneath the sands lies the Erebus.
As you read this, something very real and old is passing behind our Sun. We call it 3I/ATLAS, the third confirmed interstellar object ever detected. Each story that follows explores a different possible future that this ancient visitor might reveal to humanity as it comes around the Sun. These are meditations on what we might learn from something that has traveled far further than we know how to… (yet).
